HBCU Leggings’ Founder Amina Hammond Gains National Recognition and Success
BELTSVILLE, MD, June 25, 2024 (V SHADES) - Amina Hammond, a 2006 graduate of Howard University’s Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts, is receiving national attention for her brand, HBCU Leggings.
Since its founding, the company has been designing leggings, hoodies, tees, and blankets. According to Hammond, “The 2020 election of fellow Howard graduate, Vice-President Kamala Harris was quite inspirational.”
In 2021, Hammond applied for and received licensing approval from Howard University, resulting in over $75,000 in sales within two weeks and a donation of $17,000 to the university. Building on this success, she secured additional licenses with ten other HBCUs.
HBCU Leggings has achieved significant milestones, including approval for distribution in two major retailers and 13 HBCU campus bookstores. The brand has also been licensed with Delta Sigma Theta, allowing it to vend at the Eastern regional conference in August.
Looking ahead, Hammond has initiated an internship program for HBCU students starting in June 2024. Additionally, she completed a major sponsorship with Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage and Maria More, co-host on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show.
Hammond also sponsored an event with Love Healthy at the BET Experience (BET Awards weekend) at the end of June, featuring Maria More and other special guests.
